About Minas Gerais

With big churches of Baroque architecture, colonial buildings and museums, Minas Gerais has about 60% of the national heritage. The Royal Road, opened in the XVIII century by the Portuguese Crown, passes through the historical cities of the state, such as Ouro Preto and Diamantina.

The state also has resorts with thermals known for their medicinal and therapeutic properties. For those who want to relax and enjoy the benefits of spa, besides visiting the famous city of Pocos de Caldas, a trip to the Route of Waters (which include a few towns in the Serra da Mantiqueira area, in the southern state, such as Lombardi, Caxambu and San Lorenzo) is a very good option.

In addition to the hot springs, there are several cities with waterfalls and refreshing lakes. The dam of Furnas has the largest volume of water in the state, and, for this reason, is called "sea of Minas", offering attractions such as boating, artificial beaches and canyons.

Minas Gerais is well known for its fine cuisine, based on delicacies like tutu bean, chicken with okra and cheese with guava, and by the friendliness and hospitality of the people from the city.
